U.S. stock market on May 31, 2017: thoughts and outlook

1. is the market is starting to crack? The market doesn’t usually care about the chicago PMI, but it sank 17 points on this news today
2. the market doesn’t care about Comey or the Trump-Russia allegations anymore.
3. forward earnings for the S&P 500 continue to surge. this is long term bullish.

  1. I think the market has changed very much since the last market crash and that people are freaked out simply because they assume a sell off happens every ten years like clockwork. This cannot be assume since there were large declines in both 2001 and 2007, that’s twice within 8 years of each other. Perhaps since the last bull market didn’t last as long as one would anticipate, this one will take longer. Of course, that is not to say that an underlying factor that no one suspects could trigger a crash, but it seems like the markets are progressing at an acceptable pace and are barely close to being overvalued.
